    1. The Vaid are Mohiyal Saraswat Brahmins, the Martial Brahmins among Saraswat Brahmin Community. The Mohiyal are decedents of Saraswat Dynasty of King Porush of Porush Pur now called Peshawar in Pakistan. The y are called Vaid because they are the direct decedents of Risi Dhanwantri the great Vaidya. In himachal their Kuldevi is Jwala ji and Kul Devta is NAG near Jwalaji. There are many Vaid in Himachal. The Jammu and Kashmir have good number of Mohiyal, many of them are Sikhs. The mohiyal are only Brahmins community who become SIKHS, probably being Martial.

    1. Dear Raman,
I am thinking since long of finding out of the origin of the Dogra Brahmin caste style as they have very peculiar style. Say I am Changotre, what this "Chan" a village or occupation or an area is a mystery. Similarly Mansotre, Somnotre,Bansotre,Lalotre, etc etc. Certainly this peculiar style indicates some thing and it can not understood unless I talk or read by being in Jammu, which I could not afford so far and now I am too old to do all this. You can proceed.....

I was told by my Grandfather that we migrated from Datarpur(Pb) to vill. Bharmar in Kangra(HP) because of plague epidemic there in around 1880s.
So, could you please tell me about our origin or give any information

  12. Dear Sanchit,
The Khajuria Brahmins are essentially a Dogra Saraswat Brahmins of Duggar region. They are in predominant number in Jammu region. Some of them may have migrated to Punjab and from Punjab to else where as in your case.Regarding their origin there are more than one stories, some believe they came from Khajure Van on the banks of Saraswati river hence called Khjuria Brahmins. Some say their ancestor was found unattended under a Khajur tree, and third group say they have come from a place call Khjuria. But logic is in favour of the fact they came fron VAN KHJURE on the banks of Saraswati Rive which dried about 5000 years before during Mahabharat times. But beyond doubt they are SARASWAT BRAHMINS of Duggar region and their GOTRS is UPMANAU.

    1. We are Badyals. Where is Kuldevta of Badyals and where is their congregation held?
    2. Are Bhagotras Brahmins??

    1. Badyal are High class Saraswat Brahmins. Congregation and Kuldevi or devta are decided by community itself. No one has made any attempt to collect all the kuldeva or devi at one place of Dogra Saraswat Brahmins, it is very much needed some one should make it. I have limitation of age otherwise would have certainly done it.

    1. Sharma is not a caste it is a classification meaning a Brahmin in general. As we say Brahmin, Kashtriya , Vaishya and Shudra, similarly Vishnugupt classified as Sharma (Brahmins), Verma (Kashtriya), Gupta (Vaishya) and Dassa (Shudra). So all brahmins can write Sharma irrespective of group or clan or caste. It does not indicate any caste or clan or type of Brahmins.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Badu are very much Dogra saraswat brahmins belong to middle class group of Saraswat Brahmins of J&K. Your ancestors are common with other members of saraswat community who migrated from saraswati river 5000 years bak to this region. All saraswat brahmins of Jammu and Kashmir and of Himachal have common origin and saraswat brahmins of Jammu and of Kashmir share common genetic origin hence the same group.

People from different cast were the part of Balotra during Mughal Kaal.Rathore Kings had created CHATRION KA MORCHA while fighting with Mughals. People who had not accepted the ISLAAM were moved to Hill areas and other part of country. Most of them were shifted to Jammu, Himachal, Punjab. Title Balhotra is used by all such people who were migrated from Rajasthan and Brahmin, Rajputs, Kumhars are part of cast.

  34. Brahmin is Brahmin..why this debate of high class and lower class in Brahmins ?..Does not look right and nice :-)

  35. Just as an introduction. I am a Chartered Accountant working at as Vice President-Finance in a Multi National Bank. We are originally from Village Bains near Dorangla in Distt Gurdaspur. I was never aware nor I was interested to know details of sub caste system etc, till I went to Haridwar with my father Shri Baij Nath Sharma, a Retd Chief Judicial Megistrate in Rajasthan. There I came to know that we are Raine, Saraswat Brahmin..now just reading this Blog and found that we are more interested in knowing that which Brahmin is higher and which is lower. I think we should only be happy to know our roots and praise that we are not converted to Muslims by courage shown by our ancestors in past..if they were also lost time in these dumb debate, we whould have been called by some other name..hop all understands..thanks Bharat Bhushan Sharma
